Short Season Tuesday: Matthew Budgell Makes Pro Debut
SSA: Brooklyn Cyclones 12, @ Aberdeen Ironbirds 5
Nice:
Javier Rodriguez had three of the Cyclo
nes’ 13 hits. In 29 games, the 21-year old is hitting .269/.331/.437 for Brooklyn.
1B Cole Frenzel, the Mets’ 7th rounder out of Arizona was 2-4 with a triple, his first as a professional.
LHP Jack Leathersich, the Mets’ 5th rounder from Massachusetts Lowell a tossed scoreless inning. He’s made three professional outings, all one inning, and has allowed just one hit, zero walks and fanned seven. That’s pretty dominant.
Less than Nice:
The Ironbirds stole NINE bases against the combination of RHP Eduardo Aldama and C Xorge Carillo. Carillo, in his seventh game as a professional, was the Mets 14th round pick out of Arizona State this year.
R – APP: Greeneville Astros 7, Kingsport Mets 2
The most interesting thing about this one to me? The K-Mets scored twice in the second inning on one hit, and in fact, collected just that one hit, a Luke Stewart single to right, all game long.
R – GCL: @ GCL Cardinals 2, GCL Mets 1
10th rounder Matthew Budgell made his professional debut with a scoreless hitless inning with a walk. A California high school product, Baseball America described him as “lanky [with] an easy arm action that produced 90-91 mph fastballs and a promising curve in November.”
