Bernazard is Back!

Well, not really, but he is talking to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal in an amazing interview.

Bernazard says he was made a scapegoat for the Mets 2009:

I got on the team. Yes, I did. I reprimanded the team for violating rules. But what is the Mets’ history when things don’t go right? They pick somebody, sometimes one person, sometimes other people. I was it.

Other highlights:

- He took off his shirt in Binghamton, not to challenge the players to a fight, but because he had just returned from a 55-mile bike ride in a long sleeve shirt.

Even if you accept Bernazard’s story at face value on this, it’s silly.  I ride.  Who wears a long sleeve shirt on a long ride the first week of July?  And if you know you have a team meeting to scold players about breaking team rules, why aren’t you dressed like a professional?

- As for the arguments he had with players and other personnel, his response in each case “it was nothing.”

Treating people like dirt is not “nothing.”  It’s important.  Dude doesn’t get it.

- He insists he’ll get another job in baseball, but has not been looking for one.

- He claims that the Mets “accelerated development program” was a success, citing Ike Davis, Jon Niese, Jenrry Mejia, Ruben Tejada, Daniel Murphy, Nick Evans and Bobby Parnell.

(!!!!!)

The interview has been edited since it was originally posted to remove Bernazard’s most confusing statement.

What was the purpose of this interview, anyway? To try and re-hash old crap and make the Mets look like the ‘bad guy’, as usual? Fox Sport is a joke. I’m surprised this wasn’t one of Bob Klapisch’s garbage articles.
