Daily Recap: Sunday, August 24 games

Round Rock 5 – Las Vegas 6: OF Cory Vaughn capped an outstanding weekend with two more hits, including a three-run homer. He’s driven in seven runs in his last three games. Matt Reynolds extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single and also plated a run. Josh Satin was 2-for-4 and doubled for the 25th time this season. Cory Mazzoni breezed through seven innings, giving up one run, but was pulled after loading the bases in the 8th. Akron 2 – Binghamton 5: Left-hander Steven Matz was outstanding, throwing five shutout innings, while allowing just three hits, with six strikeouts and no walks. In 11 Eastern League starts, the Long Island native is 6-4 with a 2.17 era. He’s given up one earned run in his last four starts (25 innings). Brandon Nimmo doubled for the 10th time since being promoted and was 1-for-4 overall. Dilson Herrera singled, drove in a run and scored once. Jupiter 2 – St. Lucie 3: RHP Kevin McGowan carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning before surrendering three singles and a run. Gavin Cecchini was 2-for-4 with a double to lift his Advanced-A batting average to .233. Phillip Evans singled twice and has hit safely in three straight games. Savannah 5 – Greenville 8: Champ Stuart launched his third home run of the season for his only hit of the day. Jonathan Leroux added his third of the season as well. Dominic Smith had the day off. Yeixon Ruiz now has a four game hitting streak after going 1-for-4. >>Read more at MiLB.com


Tri-City 1 – Brooklyn 10: OF John Mora extended his hitting streak to six games with a 3-for-4 effort. He’s batting .338 in 19 games since being promoted. Michael Conforto singled twice and drove in three runs. It’s his fifth multi-hit game in his last 10 starts. Jhoan Urena was 1-for-4 with two rbi. RHP Marcos Molina was outstanding yet again, tossing 6 2/3 innings of one-hit ball, allowing one run, with eight strikeouts and five walks. Johnson City 1 – Kingsport 9: OF Oswald Caraballo had a big night with the lumber, with four hits in five at-bats, including his 18th double of the season and three rbi. In his last three games, the 21-year-old is 8-for-12 with six driven in. Persio Reyes threw seven scoreless innings for his first win in the Appy League. Eudor Garcia was 3-for-5 with a double and a run batted in.
