Daily Recap: Wednesday, September 3 games

Reno 4 – Las Vegas 5, Game 1: In just his second game with the 51s, L.J. Mazzilli drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the bottom of the 8th inning, helping Vegas grab a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-five series. Kevin Plawecki was 2-for-4, including a homer that tied the game in the 6th. Cory Vaughn also homered. Rafael Montero had a rough night on the mound, allowing three runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings, with six strikeouts and four walks. He threw 103 pitches, 64 strikes. Portland 5 – Binghamton 8, Game 1: The B-Mets rallied for three runs in the 8th inning and three more in the 9th to take Game 1 of the best-of-five series. T.J. Rivera capped his huge night with a three-run walk-off home run. It was one of his four hits in the game. He also doubled twice and drove in five runs. Rivera hit .358 in 201 at-bats with the B-Mets this season. Brandon Nimmo was 0-for-5 and is now 1-for-his-last-25 at the plate. Wilfredo Tovar started at SS instead of Gavin Cecchini and collected three hits, including a double. Jace Boyd plated a run with a single. >>Read more at MiLB.com


Savavvah 3 – Asheville 8, Game 1: The Tourists have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Champ Stuart started his fantastic night with a leadoff home run in the top of the 1st. He would later double and single twice to finish 4-for-5. Michael Conforto made his Sand Gnats debut, going 2-for-5 with a double and a run batted in. Jhoan Urena likewise made his debut for Savannah and reached base three times on a single, walk and hit-by-pitch. Victor Cruzado and Matt Oberste had a pair of knocks each. RHP Robert Gsellman had a tough night on the mound, surrendering five runs on eight hits in five innings. >>Read more at MiLB.com
