Monday Notes: Cohoon Honored Again; Duda Promoted

SAL

Mark Cohoon has been named the SAL Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week.  The Gnats are one game out of first with seven to play in the season’s first half, so expect a wave of promotions following next Sunday’s game whether or not the Gnats win the first half.

The 22-year-old Cohoon leads the SAL in ERA (1.44) and in innings pitched (81.1). He is fourth in strikeouts (68) and fourth in fewest base-runners allowed (9.07/9 IP). Cohoon is fourth in all of Minor League Baseball in ERA and is ninth in innings pitched.  The Gnats’ pitching staff not only boasts the best ERA (2.54) in the SAL, but holds the best ERA of any team in minor league baseball.

Monday Transactions

*Lucas Duda was transferred from the Binghamton roster to the Buffalo roster.

– Duda was hitting .286/.411/.503 for AA Binghamton, with 17 doubles and six homers, so this was well deserved.  He’s smacked righties around to the tune of a .325/.448/.579/1.027 line, but has hit just .143/.279/.229 in 35 AB against LHP.

*Roy Merritt was transferred from the Binghamton roster to the Buffalo roster.

– Merritt was 1-3 with a 3.98 ERA for AA Binghamton.  He’s murder against lefties: .224/.316/.284 in 67 AB.  That OBP is supported by four HBP.

*Jon Malo was transferred from the Binghamton roster to the Buffalo roster.

– Malo is a valuable defender all over the infield and outfield despite hitting just .234 for Binghamton.

*Emmanuel Garcia was transferred from the Buffalo roster to the St. Lucie roster.

*Wilfredo Tovar was transferred from Extended Spring Training to the St. Lucie roster.
