Wednesday in Short-Season: A Rain-Shortened Day

Short night in short season ball for the Mets on Wednesday.

SSA: Brooklyn Cyclones @ Auburn Doubledays – ppd by rain.

The Doubledays picked up two runs in the second inning against Jacob Lugo, but the game was called by rain in the fourth to be finished Thursday.

R (APP): @ Danville Braves 7, Kingport Mets 1

Corey Oswalt: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

Last weekend, I wrote the following about Oswalt when I saw him:

He has a big (6’4″) sturdy-looking body with some bulk, and what looks like a clean delivery. The ball just does not come out of his hand with any pop however. He was sitting 87-88 most of the game, and by the third and fourth innings, the 19-year-old was mixing in some 84 and 85. He can turn some of his bulk into muscle, but he is no longer “projectable.” His curveball was 75 and the shape was poorly defined. He showed some changeups at 75-77 on which he really slowed down his arm losing deception. His slider, at 80 was slurvy.

CF Champ Stuart was 1-for-4 with a double and the Kingsport RBI, but fanned twice and was removed for a pinch-runner, which is odd considering he’s the K-Mets’ fastest runner.

R (GCL) GCL Cardinals @ GCL Mets – suspended by rain

This was actually the game from July 2. They resumed and then were washed away. They’ll try again Thursday.
