#25 – CF Darrell Ceciliani
Bats/Throws: L/L
Height/Weight: 6’1”/185 lbs
Acquired: 4th rd ’09 (Columbia Basin (OR) CC)
Born: 5/24/91
2009 Rank: NR
Why Ranked Here: The Mets love Ceciliani’s plus speed out in centerfield. Combine that with an average or slightly better arm and you have the makings of a sweet defensive centerfielder. Ceciliani comes with gap power now, and with added strength and experience, the Mets hope he’ll add a little more authority to his offensive game. Whether he does so will determine where he falls on the spectrum of speedy outfielders.
2009: The Appy League season spans three calendar months and each tells a different story. June was the welcome to pro-ball in which Ceciliani went 1-10. In 20 games in July, he heated up with a .303/.361/.447 performance that included five doubles, two homers and eight stolen bases. However, Ceciliani missed almost two weeks at the end of July into August when he was diagnosed with a case of asthma. The Mets thought it really interrupted his rhythm and sapped him of his strength which led to a .181/.244/.194 August.
Dr. Pangloss Says: Ceciliani becomes some modified version of Jacoby Ellsbury.
Debbie Downer Says: Or a fourth outfielder
Projected 2010 Start: Centerfield in Savannah
MLB Arrival: 2014
