The Gnats play two to make up for last nights rain out, meanwhile starting pitchers returning from the DL highlight the evening action.

Monday 4:00 ET – RHP Matt Koch (1-1, 6.75) vs. RHP Sam Stafford (0-2, 6.00)
Game Two – RHP Luis Cessa (2-1, 2.70) vs. RHP Tyler Smith (3-0, 2.70)

Matt Koch has struck out 10 and walked 0 over 4 appearances, and allowed 19 hits over 13.1 IP . After a rough opener he’s allowed 5 runs (4 ER) on 12 hits in 11.2 IP for a 3.09 ERA.
In his last start Luis Cessa gave up 11 hits and 6 runs (5 ER) over 5.2 IP while striking out 6 and not walking a batter. He’s struck out 22 and walked 2 on the year.
Sam Stafford is scheduled to return from the DL for today’s game. His last start was on April 23rd when he allowed a run on 3 hits over 3 IP with 1 BB / 3 K. On the year he has totaled just 9 IP in 4 starts, striking out 8 and walking 11.
Tyler Smith has allowed 4 runs on 8 hits and 3 BB/6 K in 9.2 IP in two starts.  He began the year in the bullpen, but transitioned to starting due to multiple injuries.

 

AA: Binghamton Mets (16-14) @ Trenton Thunder [NYY] (16-14) Listen
Monday 7:05 ET – RHP Cory Mazzoni (0-0, 0.00) vs. LHP Matt Tracy (2-2, 10.98)

Cory Mazzoni returns from the DL after missing a month.  He last pitching on April 5th, his only start of the year, in which he allowed an unearned run on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7 over 5 IP.  Tyler Pill went on the DL to clear a roster spot, he had remained active despite missing two turns in the rotation.
Matt Tracy has picked up both of his wins in his two home starts, 3.27 ERA. Five days ago he allowed 4 runs on 8 hits including 3 home runs in 6 IP with 5 K and 1 BB, in a road start. He’s struck out 14 and walked 15 on the year.

New York’s AA affiliates are tied for 2nd 3 games behind in the EL Eastern.  The Trenton offense is paced by New Jersey native Rob Segedin, who is hitting .338/.390.606 with 10 doubles and 3 homers. Trenton leades the EL in SLG, and are second in triples (11) and home runs (22) Trenton’s pitching is last in the EL with a 4.59 ERA and 1.54 whip as they lead the league in walks

 

A+: Daytona Cubs (16-13) @ St. Lucie Mets (18-11) Listen
Monday 6:30 ET – RHP Zach Cates (3-2, 3.18) vs. RHP Hansel Robles (2-1, 2.49)

In his last start Zack Cates threw 6 no hit innings with 7 K and 3 BB. He’s struck out 23 and walked 11 over 22.2 IP this year, and FSL batters are hitting .207 against him. He was the Padres 3rd round pick in 2010 and was included in the Anthony Rizzo trade.
Hansel Robles is due to come off the DL to make this start, he last pitched on April 21st and missed two turns in the rotation. He threw 6 shutout IP in that last appearance, allowing just 3 hits and 2 BB while striking out 6, giving no indications of the back pain that sidelined him.  Pedro Feliciano has been put on the DL to make room for Robles.  He pitched in back to back games for the first time last week.

 

AAA: Las Vegas 51s (14-15) @ Sacramento River Cats (17-14) Listen
Monday 10:05 ET – RHP Carlos Torres (1-2, 5.25) vs. HP Sonny Gray (3-1, 2.61)

Carlos Torres picked up his first win of the year in his last start, allowing Reno 3 runs (1 ER) on 7 hits, 2 BB and 4 K over 5.1 IP.
Sonny Gray has faced the 51s twice this year, throwing 6 shutout IP on April 7th at home, and allowing 6 runs (4 er) in a 5 IP loss at Las Vegas. He has struck out 25 and walked 12 in 31 IP.
