AAA: Las Vegas 51s (76-58) @ Colorado Springs SkySox [COL] (64-69) Listen
Monday 6:35 ET – RHP Chris Schwinden (6-9, 5.92) vs. RHP Chris Volstad (7-5, 4.67)
Mon Game Two – RHP Mitch Talbot (1-0, 0.00) vs. LHP Nick Schmidt (4-3, 4.48)
While the 51s head to Colorado Springs for six games in four days Sacramento will host Fresno for four games. Sacramento lost 3 of 5 in Colorado Springs while LasVegas won 4 of 5 against Fresno.
Mitch Talbot threw 5 shutout inning for New Orleans on April 4th and then went on the DL until making two rehab assignments at the GCL level on July 27th and Aug 1st. In his last outing he was able to go 5 IP and faced 20 batters, so he should be able to give some length and limit the workload on the pen. A roster move will be needed to activate him, Matt Fox was recently put on the temporarily inactive list to make room for Mike Baxter.
Noah Syndergaard returns on nine days rest. He will likely remain limited as he prepares for a playoff start or two. He struck out 10 over 5 IP in his last start, clearly tiring.
Eduardo Rodriguez held Binghamton to 1 run on 5 hits and 1 walk, striking out 7 over 6 IP last Tuesday.
After losing 4 straight to Ft. Myers, St. Lucie’s will try to stave off elimination with first place Charlotte coming to town. The Stone Crabs won in extra innings last night and are 6 games up on the Mets with 7 games to go. The Mets will turn to Domingo Tapia who has struggled with wildness all year. One bright spot was a start at Charlotte on July 9th when he struck out 7 and walked just 1 over 6.2 IP.
Tri-City has put up the second best record in the NYPL. They are 4th in the league in OPS, 2nd in homers, 3rd in walks, while striking out the least. On the pitching side they have the lowest whip at 1.11 and are 5th in ERA at 2.83. The Cyclones will face the Valley Cats 6 times over the last 10 games of the season.
Dario Alvarez shutout SI for 5 IP in his last start. Over his last 11 IP he’s allowed 1 UER on 7 hits and 8 walks while striking out 9.
R: Kingsport Mets (35-27) @ Pulaski Mariners (40-23)
Monday 7:00 ET – RHP Chris Flexen (7-1, 2.14) vs. RHP Edwin Diaz (5-1, 1.41)
Despite falling out of first the K-Mets still have a two game lead on a playoff spot, that’s over Johnson City who moved past Elizabethtown (2.5 GB of 2nd) in the tightly grouped West division.
Chris Flexen struck out 11 in a complete game shutout in his last start. Against Pulaski on Aug 8th he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks, striking out 3 over 7 IP. He has had four starts with 3 or less K, and five starts with 6 or more.
Edwin Diaz struck out 10 over 7 IP in a win against Bluefield six days ago. He is the league leader in ERA and strikeouts, and is third with a 0.94 WHIP.
A: Savannah Sand Gnats (29-31) off
The Gnats will head to Rome (33-30) for three games starting tomorrow, then wrap up the season with 6 games in 4 days hosting Greenville (26-34).
