A-Ball Friday: Alex Panteliodis At his Best

A+: @ Dunedin Blue Jays 4, St. Lucie Mets 1

A two-out ninth inning single from CF Alonzo Harris was the only thing between St. Lucie and a second opponents’ no-hitter in the last eight days.

A: Rome Braves 3, @ Savannah Sand Gnats 2

Alex Panteliodis put together his best start of 2012, but the Gnats could not get on the scoreboard until the eighth inning on a two-run homer by 3B Dustin Lawley.

Panteliodis (pictured), the Mets’ 9th round pick out of Florida in 2011, entering Friday night with 30 strikeouts against 29 walks, then fanned 10 and walked one in six innings against the Braves while yielding two runs on six hits. He was just better in nearly every respect than he has been during the course of 2012, using his fastball up and down, and throwing his curveball for strikes, or near strikes that induced chases. At times, he was effectively wild, missing Cam Maron’s mitt behind the plate, but still earning strike calls.
