While Matt Harvey will be pitching for the Mets tonight in Philly, some less exciting pitching prospects will try and make their mark in these minor league contests.
Erik Goeddel performed to a 3.41 ERA and 1.41 whip last year for St. Lucie, allowing FSL batters to hit .263 against him. Victor Larez worked as a reliever in the FSL last year, posting a 1.73 ERA and a .200 BAA, with increased walk and strikeout rates compared to his numbers as a starter.
Logan Taylor worked as a reliever for the Cyclones last year, striking out 19, walking 2, and giving up 11 hits in 19.1 IP Matt Koch, who is expected to piggyback with Taylor, struck out 19, walked 7, and let up 25 hits over 23.1 IP in a similar role with the Cyclones. Joe Biagini made 9 starts for Augusta in 2012 striking out 36 and walking 29 over 34 IP
Darin Gorski may not have earned a promotion to AAA off of his 4.00 ERA, 1.27 whip, .244 BAA in AA last year, or a spring training that ended with him being put on waivers, but injuries to Santana and Marcum have created a need and the Mets will call on the 25 year old lefty to round out the LasVegas rotation. The 50 walks and 20 homers he allowed last year were career highs, and will be points of emphasis for him in the hitter friendly PCL, as well as his tendency to allow fly balls with a 0.6 GO/AO mark last year.
The Mets brought Boof Bonser to camp in 2011 to help solidify the Buffalo rotation, but he made just one start and then needed elbow surgery. He landed with the Giants last year and contributed to the Grizzlies as a spot starter and long reliever.
LasVegas starting pitchers have a 3.15 ERA through four games, while the pen is at 6.00 with all 7 unearned runs the 51s have allowed also happening with relievers on the mound.
A+: St. Lucie Mets (4-0) off
After sweeping their first four from Jupiter the FSL Mets will head south again and play the Palm Beach Cardinals Tuesday though Friday. Luis Mateo has yet to see the mound.
