8/18 & 8/19 Games

AAA: Buffalo Bisons (61-66) @ Pawtucket Red Sox [BOS] (69-59) Listen
Saturday 4:30 – RHP Collin McHugh (1-4, 3.77) vs. RHP Chris Hernandez (1-2, 3.65)
Sunday 1:05 – RHP Juerys Familia (8-7, 4.69) vs. RHP Billy Buckner (5-6, 4.48)

Collin McHugh pitches in Fenway park for the second year in a row as a Mets affiliate participates in the Futures at Fenway.  This past Monday McHugh and Hernandez pitched to a 1-1 draw, in a game the PawSox would go on to win against Pedro Beato.  Beato is now a member of the PawSox, and hasn’t appeared in a game since.  On July 13th in Pawtucket Familia threw 6.1 IP of shutout ball, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K, while Buckner allowed 6 runs on 3 homers.

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels
(63-62) @ Binghamton Mets (60-65) Listen
Saturday 7:05–  RHP Chris Heston (8-5, 2.20) vs. RHP Cory Mazzoni (5-3, 3.45)
Sunday 1:05–  LHP Mike Kickham (10-9, 2.79) vs. RHP Gonzalez Germen 6-10, 4.81)

In three august starts Mazzoni has struck out 9 and walked 7 over 18 IP, and has already surpassed his hit and walk totals for July.   Germen has not had a single no decision in 16 appearances with Binghamton this year, and is 10-10 over three levels.  Dustin Martin went 4-for-4 Friday night.  Heston and Kickham are first and third in the EL in ERA

A+:
St. Lucie Mets (28-25) @ Charlotte Stone Crabs (21-32) Listen
Saturday 6:30 – RHP Jacob DeGrom (1-0, 0.00) vs. RHP Albert Suarez (5-8, 4.09)
Sunday 5:30 – LHP Chase Huchingson 7-7, 4.38) vs. RHP Eliazer Suero (4-7, 6.48)

Alonzo Harris went 3-for-5 and scored 3 times from the leadoff spot, Friday.  While Aderlin Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.  Jack Leathersich ignited a 4 run rally in the 7th with 2 hits and 2 BB, and took the loss.

A: Savannah SandGnats (24-29)
@ Hickory Crawdads (29-25) Listen
Saturday 6:00 – RHP Johan Almonte (0-0, -.–) vs RHP Jerad Eickhoff (11-7, 4.87)
Sunday 5:00 – RHP Michael Fulmer (7-5, 2.54) vs TBA

Mike Fulmer is third in the SAL in ERA (thanks in part to DeGrom and Montero being promoted) and is set to make his 21st start of the year.  Almonte has not pitched since an August 1st relief appearance for St. Lucie.  He spent all of last year in the Savannah rotation, going 8-8, 3.91 while striking out 6.1 and walked 2.0 per 9 IP and allowing SAL batters to him .251 against him.  This year for St. Lucie he went 7-5, 6.57 while striking out 5.9 and walking 2.2 per 9 IP, and allowing a .303 BAA.

SSA: Brooklyn Cyclones (35-22) @ Vermont Lake Monsters [OAK] (26-31)
Listen
Saturday 6:05 – RHP Luis Mateo (4-4, 2.82) vs. RHP Andres Avila (0-3, 4.30)
Sunday 6:05 – RHP Hansel Robles (3-1, 1.48) vs. LHP Brent Powers (0-4, 5.83)

Luis Mateo makes his first start in ten days, after his last two starts was the first time he’s allowed multiple runs in back to back starts.  He struck out 19 and walked none in those two starts, so missing the strike zone is clearly not his problem.  On August 10th  Hansel Robles threw 8 shutout innings against Vermont striking out seven and allowing just a single hit, losing a perfect game bid in the 7th.  On August 11st Avila allowed 4 runs and failed to complete the 3rd against the Cyclones, while the next day Powers allowed 5 runs and didn’t complete the 5th as the Cyclones swept a three game series hosting Vermont.  None of the Vermont pitchers average 5 IP per start, as Oakland takes a different approach with their NYPL pitching.

R: Kingsport Mets (18-35)
@ Elizabethton Twins (38-16)
Saturday 7:00 – RHP Miller Diaz (1-1, 3.58) vs. LHP Hein Robb (2-3, 3.00)
Sunday 7:00 – RHP Andrew Massie (0-2, 6.64) vs. LHP Brett Lee (4-0, 2.12)

Miller Diaz threw four innings against Elizabethton on July 24th allowing 1 run on 2 hits and 6 K.  gs he has pitched. Akeel Morris has pitched much better as a reliever, allowing 5 hits and 7 BB to 16 K for a 0.90 ERA over 10 IP.  He’s continued to work on a starters routine following Diaz each time they’ve pitched so I wonder what he’s changed that its worked so much better for him lately.  Kingsport has committed 79 errors on the year, 1.5/game.
