A-Ball Monday: Gnats Comeback in Lakewood. St. Lucie Ppd

A+: Brevard County Manatees, @ St. Lucie Mets

Ppd by rain. You know, because it’s summer in Florida.

A: Savannah Sand Gnats 9, @ Lakewood BlueClaws 8

This was actually a nice comeback as the Gnats trailed 6-1 before rallying for three runs in the sixth inning and four in the seventh to take an 8-6 lead. After the ‘Claws tied the game in the eighth, the Gnats won it in the ninth on a pair of fielding errors sandwiched around a wild pitch.

Logan Verrett was hittable: 7 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 9 K, 2 HR. Good: nine strikeouts/zero walks and nine ground ball outs. Bad: 8 hits and two homers.

Good stuff: four different Gnats had two-hit days. CF Gilbert Gomez tripled, his first of the year, in a 2-for-4 night with a walk. The 20-year old is hitting .248/.333/.309 in 41 games with the Gnats.

With 1B Cole Frenzel back and playing, and Aderlin Rodriguez promoted to St. Lucie, Brian Harrison moved across the diamond to third base. He was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI, including a two-double that put the Gnats ahead in the team’s four-run seventh.
