A-Ball Monday: Syndergaard Gives Up a Pair of Homers

A+: St. Lucie Mets 9, @ Clearwater Threshers (PHI) 4

Syndergaard Stl HeadNoah Syndergaard: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 2 HR. The homeruns are a surprise. It’s not just the first time he has allowed two homers in a game this year, but just the second and third homeruns he has allowed all year in 63.2 innings. Once nice thing: he’s stopped walking batters. In his last six starts (which includes one that was rain-shortened): he’s fanned 33 and walked four in 32.2 innings.

Five different Mets had two hits, led by 1B Aderlin Rodriguez who was 2-for-4 with a walk, his 10th of the year. The 21-year old Rodriguez his hitting .259/.293/.431 in 60 games. He’s a streaky, streaky hitter. After a torrid May (.343/.372/.581 13 XBH – 26 gms) he’s still looking for his first extra-base hit in June (.216/.293/.216 – 10 gms). This was his 16th game at first, so again, there is even more pressure on his bat.

A: Asheville Tourists @ Savannah Sand Gnats – ppd by rain

They’ll play two on Tuesday. However, the Gnats picked up a game on the Charleston Riverdogs and are now alone in first place with a full-game lead over the ‘Dogs after Charleston lost twice to last-place Greenville. Those two games for Charleston began a stretch of 10 games in seven days to finish the first half.
