A-Ball Wednesday: Adam Kolarek Would Like to Go to AA Now.

A+: Brevard County Manatees (MIL) 9, @ St. Lucie Mets 7

The Manatees scored five runs in the first inning, and three in the third on the way to an 8-1 advantage that St. Lucie could not overcome with a mid-innings rally.

Ouch. LHP Chase Huchingson: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. He has not finished the first inning in either of his last two starts. In 79.2 innings this year, he’s walked 43, that’s 4.9 BB/9 on his way to a 4.74 ERA.  His ERA by month: April – 1.32, May – 5.18, June – 6.65, July – 11.37.

LHP Adam Kolarek tossed a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. He’s fanned 61 in 47 innings, (11.7 K/9) against just 14 walks for a 4.4 K/BB ratio on his way to a 1.53 ERA. I’m not arguing that he’s a Major League piece yet, but I’m just not sure what he needs to do to punch his ticket to double-A.

CF Alonzo Harris was 3-for-5 with two doubles, a walk and two stolen bases. Now 23, he’s hitting .311/.391/.443 in 15 games in July with seven walks and eight strikeouts. His walk rate is way up as his 31 free passes are a new career-high surpassing last year’s total in 30 fewer games. His OPS by month: April – .631, May – .771, June – .795, July – .834.

The Gnats were off, but begin an eight-game homestand Thursday evening.
