Around Winter Ball: Holt Wild Monday, Valdespin & Campbell Hot

In his second AFL start, Brad Holt gave up one unearned run on two hits in three innings.  However, his command was shaky: three walks, three strikeouts, and just half of his pitches, 27 of 54, were strikes.  In six AFL innings, Holt now has four walks and four strikeouts.
Eric Niesen gave up a hit and a walk while picking up one strikeout in an inning of relief in his third AFL appearance.

Also Monday, 2B Jordany Valdespin was 2-3 with his second double.  He’s had a hit in each of his five games with a plate appearance and is hitting .381 with four strikeouts, one walk and two stolen bases.  CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis was 1-4, but was caught stealing a base.  In his five games, he’s walked three times and struck out six for a .313/.450/.438 line.

C Kai Gronauer, who has seen action in three games is 0-for-7.

There were no games in the VWL on Monday.  Eric Campbell was held hitless for the first time in the VWL season on Sunday, but after a week for the Caribes, he’s hitting .375/.423/.500 with (9-for-24) with three doubles.

I don’t think Brad Holt will ever be any better then let’s say Tobi Stoner. I know they are two completely different pitchers in every way, but really they both kinda suck. Neither are worthy of your time or updates anymore. I know I’m being selfish here but I’m sick of seeing his name in headlines and being disappointed. I kind of wish the Mets would just trade him already. There’s really no reason to believe he’s going to turn it around one day. Holt is just a tremendous waste of time and resources, like taking someone else’s AFL spot and making you right about him.
