The Gnats swept a weird doubleheader from the Drive on Thursday. Game one was the continuation of last Saturday’s game from Savannah which was suspended in the middle of the fifth inning with the Drive up 1-0. The Gnats won a game played in Greenville as the home team. Darrell Ceciliani singled home the go-ahead run in the seventh. Michael Hebert picked up all four innings in relief for the Gnats in game one, shutting out the Drive one one hit with two strikeouts and no walks.
Game two was all about the bats as the Gnats banged out 13 hits and batted around in both the third and fourth innings and won as the visiting team. In the third, Rafael Fernandez ripped a three-run triple, while in the fourth Aderlin Rodriguez drilled a two-run triple. Blake Forsythe (.229/.335/.386) was 2-3 with a homer and a walk in game two, giving him two straight games with a longball including Wednesday’s action.
Ceciliani was 2-5 with a double in game two and is now up to .322/.403/.390 in 15 games in August with four doubles, eight walks and 13 strikeouts.
Yohan Almonte wasn’t very good (5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 2 HR), but it didn’t matter on a night when the offense was rolling.
