Links: Rafael Montero Video, Wilmer Flores and Mark Cohoon

Nice Rafael Montero video here. I don’t buy some of the scouting report, but click through if you’re curious about the video.

In the New York Post, Nets beat writer Tim Bontemps takes an NBA break to write about Wilmer Flores’ year in AA.

The Eastern League named Mark Cohoon as the circuit’s Pitcher of the Week for a complete game shutout Friday in which he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning.

That prompted this comment from Kevin Goldstein at Baseball Prospectus in his Monday Morning Ten Pack

But is he a prospect? It’s a mixed bag. He has a solid 3.44 ERA and has walked just 25 batters in 120 1/3 innings, but at the same time, he turns 25 in a month and, even with the big strikeout game, he’s punching out Eastern League hitters at a rate of barely over 5.1 per nine. He’s really just a strike thrower with a changeup, as he rarely scrapes 90 mph with his fastball. While that won’t land him (or shouldn’t) on anyone’s Mets prospect list, he’s one of hundreds in the minors who just might be good enough at his craft to be an occasionally usable No. 5 starter. Of course, of those hundreds with the potential, few actually do it.

Here’s the thing about Cohoon. He’s done ok in AA, and even been very good this year without missing many bats, but he’s been exposed in AAA. Triple-A hitters have not been so kind, pounding him for 136 hits in 102.1 innings with 13 homers and a 55/41 K/BB ratio. If he’s in a big league rotation, that team has big pitching depth problems.
