Mets minor leaguer Bernard suspended

Mets minor league righthander Derrick Bernard has been suspended 62 games without pay for testing positive for a banned substance, the commissioner’s office announced Wednesday.

Bernard, 22, tested positive for a metabolite of Nandrolone, a performance-enhancing substance banned in the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Bernard, from Texas City, Texas, signed with the Mets in June. He made six appearances for the Mets’ rookie Gulf Coast League team in Port St. Lucie, Fla., pitching seven innings with a 3.86 ERA.
