Mocking and Drafting Tuesday

2013-MLB-draft- At MLB.com, Jon Mayo has a piece up on the final preparations for the draft. Nice line from a scouting director about team-specific workouts, “It’s like the last piece of the interview.”

- Kiley McDaniel, who was our guest on the Mostly Mets Podcast this week has a new Mock Draft up at Scout.com. The nice thing about this one is that it includes a range of selection for each pick.
His grid for the Mets:

The Pick               2nd Option                    3rd Option                4th Option
D.J. Peterson      Hunter Renfroe              Dominic Smith        Phil Ervin

In Kiley’s world, OF Austin Meadows, OF Clint Frazier and C Reese McGuire are all taken a few spots in front of the Mets. Kiley spends most of his time going to games where he sees the players himself, and talks to folks in the industry. That, combined with his time in a few different front offices, give him solid network of sources to draw on.

We spent a lot of time on the podcast talking about Peterson and Renfroe. I’m still skeptical about Peterson, but Kiley has been getting excellent scouting reports on him. He’s a good interview and opinionated; for example, he pretty strongly dismissed the Mets’ interest in Arkansas RHP Ryne Stanek.
