Thanks to dangerously high winds and dust blowing through the Vegas desert Sunday, the 51s and Sacramento River Cats were forced to play two Monday at Cashman Field. In game one, the Las Vegas offense came to play early and often, dominating the Cats 8-3 in a scheduled seven inning game.
Wilmer Flores, who homered twice the previous night (makeup game from 5/6), extended his hitting streak to five games with a 1 for 4 effort. The lone hit was a single in the 4th inning that drove his PCL-best 82nd and 83rd runs of the season. It was his 127th hit of the campaign, which is fourth on the league leader board. One of the most impressive aspects of Flores’ offensive success this season, he’s has equally dominating numbers against righties and lefties.
Flores vs. right-handers (through 7/28): .305/.334/.498 in 285 at-bats, 25 doubles, 8 homers, 58 rbi.
Flores vs. Left-handers (through 7/28): .368/.415/.651 in 106 at-bats, 10 doubles, 6 homers, 23 rbi.
Matt den Dekker was 2 for 3, with his 2nd triple and three runs batted in. The center fielder has a hit in three straight games and six of the last seven but only one walk in his last 35 trips to the plate and nine in 79 AAA at-bats this season.
Matt Fox got the start for Vegas and collected his 5th win of the season against three defeats: 5IP, 7H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 3K, 1HR.
Notes: Ruben Tejada was 0 for 3….Kirk Nieuwenhuis finished 1 for 2 with a pair of runs scored…. Jordany Valdespin and Mike Baxter each had singles.[/sny-editorial]
