RHP Rafael Montero (pictured) hasn’t been at his best his last two starts for Las Vegas. Monday night, he surrendering four runs in five innings in the 51s 14-6 Rafael Montero ST 13 (Baron)loss to Fresno at Cashman Field. The 22-year-old entered Monday’s game trying to rebound from one of his worst outings of the season, where he gave up four runs in a season-low three innings to Salt Lake six days ago. Obviously, things didn’t go quite as well as he would have liked (although, it could have been much worse): 5IP, 7H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 3K. It marks the first time all season Montero has given up four or more runs in back-to-back starts, including his time in AA. Through his first 13 appearances this season, the Dominican Republic native hadn’t walked multiple batters in consecutive starts. He’s now done it three in a row (2,3,2).

Reliever D.J. Mitchell was summonsed from the Vegas bullpen to work the 6th inning with the 51s trailing 4-1. It was his third relief appearance since being taken out of the starting rotation June 25. In what was one of the ugliest performances of the season for a 51s pitcher, Mitchell got pounded to the tune of nine runs (eight earned) on six hits in one inning. His era ballooned to 8.33.

Wilmer Flores went 2 for 4 at the plate with a walk and a run scored, extending his season-best hitting streak to 12 games. It was his 99th hit of the season, which is seventh best in the PCL.

Eric Campbell has driven in four of his 37 rbi in the last two games. Monday, he was 1 for 2, plating a pair on a double and a ground out.

Notes: Matt den Dekker made his 1st start of the season for the 51s and went 0 for 5 with two strikeouts and left six on base….Ike Davis was 0 for 5 with 3K. He had gone six games without striking out multiple times….Brandon Hicks had three hits and an rbi in the loss. [/sny-editorial]
