NYP Playoffs: Cyclones One-Hit and Eliminated Monday

Rays’ 2011 first-rounder Taylor Guerrieri and two relievers held the Cyclones to one hit capture a 2-0 win and take the best-of-three game series two games to one to eliminate the Cyclones. All of the Mets’ minor league affiliates are now done for the 2012 season.

The Cyclones chose to start Luis Cessa (pictured) over Julian Hilario and Gabriel Ynoa. The 20-year old Cessa was solid if unspectacular: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 2 WP.

The bigger issue for the Cyclones was that the team had one hit – a Philip Evans single in the third inning, and no baserunners in the final five innings of the game. The Cyclones scored just one run in the final two games of the three-game series and five total in 27 innings.

Brooklyn’s best scoring opportunity came in the first when the Cyclones had the bases loaded with two outs, but Stefan Sabol flew out to end the threat. Sabol also grounded out to end the Brooklyn third inning with two runners aboard.
