The latest group of Mets on the DL to rehab in St. Lucie, including Jenrry Mejia have all experienced some kind of setback recently.
Rafael Montero threw 6 shutout inning in his last start, striking out 8, walking 2 and allowing 4 hits. It was the 4th time in 9 starts that he has struck out 8, while he’s only walked 8 total.
Ryan Tepera struck out 7 over 5 IP in his last start, he’s walked 23 and struck out 41 over 49.1 IP this year.

Domingo Tapia returned from the DL last Friday and after 4 walks to the first seven batters was pulled. Its the third time he’s failed to see the second inning, once because of rain, and twice because of four walks. He’s walking 13% of batters this year, but 8 of his 17 walks have come in those two short outings. FSL batters are hitting .198 against him, with an absurd 4.7% line drive rate.
Parker Markel faced St. Lucie on April 15th, allowing 6 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 in 5.2 IP. In his last start he limited Ft. Myers to 3 runs (1 ER) on 8 hits over 5.1 IP, striking out 6 and walking 2.
As a team Charlotte has an ERA of 4.34 (next to last in the FSL) and a whip of 1.36 (third to last)
Luis Cessa got his season back on track in his last start, limiting Augusta to 1 run on 7 hits over 6.1 IP while striking out 7 and walking 2. It ended a run of four starts where he allowed at least 3 runs and a whip of at least 1.5, most of those starts came on the road where Cessa has a 6.43 ERA.
Brandon Brennan has put up a 6.91 ERA at home and is allowing nearly 2 base runners per inning overall. Looks like a 1-0 game in the offing…
In his last two starts Zack Wheeler has allowed 9 hits and walked 5 batters while striking out 6 over 9 IP. For genuine talk of a promotion to heat up he’ll need to get back to the form that he showed before going in the DL, when in 3 starts he struck out 19 and walked 3 while giving up just 3 runs on 14 hits over 20 IP. Rylan Sandoval joined the 51s from St. Lucie as Reece Havens went on the DL, then Wilmer Flores was hit by a pitch as Sandoval replaced him on the field. Ike Davis’ voodoo doll collection is getting bigger…
Fabio Castillo was called up from AA Richmond to start this game for the Grizzlies. He began the year working out of the pen before starting his last two appearances. He struck out 15 over 8.1 IP in those starts, and has 44 K to 17 BB in 32.1 IP. The need for more starters developed when the Giants borrowed Mike Kickham for a spot start and Shane Loux was put on the DL after a complete game win in Colorado Springs five days ago.
Ramon Ramirez was recalled by the Giants on Wednesday, he had struck out 31 in 26 relief innings, but walked 13. Top prospect Gary Brown is hitting .215/.279/.332 and is averaging a strike out per game.
