Sat. Game Two – RHP Pat Light (1-3, 8.06) vs. RHP Jake Kuebler (2-6, 2.70)
This makes up for the July 12th postponement. Luis Cessa will go on 7 days rest in a tune up for a potential game three start next Saturday. He’s struck out 117 and walked 19 in 123 IP this year.
Jake Kuebler has pitched 7.1 scoreless IP since returning from the DL, allowing 5 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 5.
Sebastian Vader has struck out 60 and walked 17 over 78.1 IP while holding NYPL batters to a .227 BA. On June 22nd he shutout the Cyclones for 8 IP (3 H, 0 BB, 10 K) in Brooklyn, and five days later against the Cyclones at home he was more hittable (5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 K) Oddly he only won the second start.
Akeel Morris will make a third start after walking 4 in 1.2 IP against Vermont in his last start. He is up to 21 walks in 40 IP to go along with 53 K and 26 hits. Morris pitched 5.2 IP of shutout relief against Aberdeen over two appearances in June striking out 11 and allowing 1 walk and 2 hits.
The 51s remain two games up on Sacramento who plays Tacoma to finish out the season. Kirk Nieuwenhuis is 7-for-15 with a double and a homer over the last 3 games, playing CF regularly since denDekker was recalled by the Mets. The 51s pen missed Robert Carson last night. The hard throwing lefty hadn’t allowed a run in 9 of his last 10 outings before being recalled and is the team leader with 11 saves.
