Saturday in A-Ball: Solid pitching All-Around

A+: @ Charlotte Stone Crabs (TB) 2, St. Lucie Mets 1  (7 innings)

They were supposed to play two, but rain held St. Lucie down to one game.

Domingo Tapia was solid: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR. That’s a whole lot better than his previous start when he yielded six runs in .1 of an inning.

A: Savannah Sand Gnats 5, @ Kannapolis Intimidators (CHW) 0

Cessa Delivery (Devyatkin)Luis Cessa gave the Gnats his best effort of the 2013 season: 7.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K with 8 ground outs and three flyouts. The 21-year-old Cessa is usually 90-91 with his fastball, with some feel for a curve and a changeup. Because he doesn’t throw terribly hard, he’s given up plenty of hits (59 in 53.2 innings) and eight homers when he’s up in the zone.

C Kevin Plawecki (.343/.416/.552 – 53 games) was 2-for-4. He’s in his slowest fortnight in the 2013 season.

Daily Nimmo
1-for-4, 2B, RBI. Brandon Nimmo (.300/.395/.400 – 28 gms) has now hit safely in three straight games since returning from nearly a month’s stay on the DL.
