Short-Season Friday: Cecchini and Becerra and Robles Rehabs

SSA: @ Brooklyn Cyclones 4, Aberdeen Ironbirds (BAL) 2

SS Gavin Cecchini was 2-for-4, which is nice. 2B L.J. Mazzili and CF Patrick Biondi each added two hits as well.

RHP Akeel Morris had a sweet line to earn the win in relief: 3.2 iP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K.

We discussed this a little in the comment section the other day, but while this Brooklyn pitching staff looks less exciting than say, last year’s, the lineup should be more productive.

R (APP): Johnson City Cardinals 5, @ Kingsport Mets 0

SS Amed Rosario had two of the K-Mets’ six hits in a 2-for-4 evening. He also committed one of the K-Mets’ four errors. He’s 2-for-9 after two games.

Rob Whalen was undone by his defense: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

R (GCL): @ GCL Nationals 4, GCL Mets 3

Hansel Robles made a rehab start from a back strain. It was ok: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K.

RF Wuilmer Becerra was 3-for-4 with an RBI. He played just 11 games in the GCL last year before his season ended with injury. I wonder if he rolls through that league if the 18-year-old can earn a promotion to Kingsport or whether the difference really matters that much.
