Short-Season Tuesday: Casey Meisner

SSA: Tri-City Valley Cats (HOU) 5, Brooklyn Cyclones 3 (16 innings)

2B LJ Mazzilli tied the game with a solo home run in the eighth and then these team played eight more. Mazzilli was 1-for-7 with his homer, a walk and five strikeouts.

SS Gavin Cecchini had a solid evening: 2-for-6, with a double, and an RBI, 2 BB, 1 K. The 19-year-old is up to .292/.339/.339 in 44 games.

The Cyclones remain a half game behind the Aberdeen Ironbirds, who also lost Tuesday.

R (APP): Kingsport Mets 5, Pulaski Mariners 3

Once again, every team in the West Division won as the K-Mets remained two games up on Johnson City for a playoff spot with three games to play.

R (GCL): GCL Cardinals 11, GCL Mets 6

Hey, look, another Frank Francisco sighting. He threw one inning, allowed two hits and a strikeout. He threw last Wednesday, Friday and again on Monday. I have no idea what the concept is for Francisco. His appearance in the final days of August is just odd. Could any contender possibly be interested in trading for Francisco, who has not pitched in the Majors since last year, and when he did so, had a 5.53 ERA in 48 games?

Casey Meisner: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K. The big Texan matched a season/career-high with his six innings set three starts ago. I’ve been told the 18-year-old is throwing 93-94 mph already. Which is nice.
