AA: Binghamton Mets (82-51) @ Akron Aeros (63-69) Listen-Alt Audio
Sunday 2:05 ET – RHP Greg Peavey (2-1, 2.00) vs. RHP Cody Anderson (0-0, 6.23)

With their 82nd win last night Binghamton matched its franchise record for wins, done three times previously, with 9 games remaining.  LHP Chase Hutchingson threw 2 perfect innings of relief Friday night, striking out 3. For the season he has struck out 67 and walked 28 over 65 IP, holding batters to a .228 BA. He’s gotten better as a the season goes on, with a lower ERA in each month, which is down to 1.66 on the year. Lefties hit just .127 against him with 26K to 9 hits. Its time he started getting some serious talk as a future pen piece.
Cody Anderson made 23 starts in advanced A (9-4, 2.34) in which he struck out 112 and walked 31. In two AA starts he’s walked as many as he has struck out (7) and allowed 11 hits over 8.2 IP.

 

A+: St. Lucie Mets (29-27) @ Fort Myers Miracle (28-30) Listen
Sunday 2:05 ET – RHP Rainy Lara (4-4, 3.41) vs. LHP Taylor Rogers (10-6, 2.76)
Sun. Game Two – RHP Octavio Acosta (1-2, 2.28 in GCL) vs. LHP David Hurlbut (0-0, 6.75)

St. Lucie has dropped to 3rd place, now 4.5 games back of Charlotte who picked up a rain shortened win yesterday.
The Mets will turn to Octavio Acosta making his FSL debut.  Acosta struck out 40 and walked 8 over 43.1 IP over 9 games for GCL Mets.
David Hurlbut (3-1, 2.52 low A) will be making his second start for Ft. Myers after working primarily as a reliever in low A where he struck out 46 and walked 8 over 50 IP.
Rainy Lara allowed 4 runs on 6 hits over 6 IP against Ft. Myers on Aug 13th, striking out 5 and walking none.
Taylor Rogers held St. Lucie to 2 runs on 6 hits over 7 IP on Aug 14th, striking out 5 and walking none.

 

A: West Virginia Power (38-24) @ Savannah Sand Gnats (29-30) Listen
Sunday 2:05 ET – RHP John Kuchno (8-5, 3.99) vs. RHP Seth Lugo (2-0, 1.42)

John Kuchno has walked 40 over 117.1 IP this year, but with just 3 walks in 16 August innings he seems to have that under control.
Seth Lugo was also walk prone with the Cyclones (13 BB in 34.1 IP) but has issued just 1 walk in 3 SAL starts. After striking out 21 in his first two starts he managed just 3 in his last start, against Augusta.

 

A-Sh: Brooklyn Cyclones (33-31) @ Vermont LakeMonsters (29-35) Listen
Sunday 5:05 ET – RHP Akeel Morris (4-0, 0.47) vs. RHP Cristhian Perez (0-0, 5.87)

Akeel Morris transitioned back to starting just fine in his last outing (5 IP, 5 H, 3 BB, 5 K) On the year he is striking out 28.5% while walking 11.3% which are both career bests.  The Cyclones remain a half game behind Aberdeen.

 

R: Kingsport Mets (35-26) @ Pulaski Mariners [SEA] (39-23)
Sunday 7:00 ET – RHP Martires Arias (1-6, 6.07) vs. LHP Eddie Campbell (2-3, 4.25)

Martires Arias allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 4 walks over 6 IP, striking out 4 in his last start. For the year he has struck out 29 and walked 21 over 46 IP.  Eddie Campbell allowed the K-Mets 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks over 3.2 IP on August 8th.
Greeneville also lost last night, keeping the K-Mets a half game up on the Astros.  Elizabethtown also lost keeping them 2.5 games back in the West division.  Pulaski is 1.5 games back of Bluefield for the East division, both have playoff spots wrapped up but Pulaski could still take away home field advantage.  All teams have six games remaining.

 

AAA: Fresno Grizzlies (63-71) @ Las Vegas 51s (76-57) Listen
Sunday 10:05 ET – LHP Eric Surkamp (6-1, 2.75) vs. RHP Rafael Montero (5-3, 3.27)

Eric Surkamp was the Giants #4 prospect entering last season, but he missed all of 2012 with elbow troubles and eventually had a ligament replacement surgery in late July.  His return to action has been one of the few bright spots for Fresno pitching this year.
Rafael Montero has one of his worst AAA starts against Fresno on July 1st (5 IP, 7 J, 4 R, 2 BB, 4 K). Since that start he has gone 5-1 with a 2.42 ERA in 9 starts, striking out 41 and walking 15 over 52 IP.
Sacramento lost in Colorado Springs last night, falling 3 games behind.
