Sunday in the SAL: Cordero Hits

Asheville Tourists 5, Savannah Sand Gnats 4

It rained hard in Savannah Sunday afternoon so this game started 42 minutes late while we prepared the field for play.  In this case, that meant putting down lots and lots of Turface (the absorbent kitty litter) on the warning track to sop up the standing water to make the field playable.

Once the game got going, the Tourists got to Ryan Fraser (7-8, 3.43) for four runs, three earned on three hits in 3.1 innings.

C Albert Cordero continues to hit the ball hard, going 2-4 with a double and triple.  The triple was a shot over the third base bag, while the double was hit less hard in the direction, but took a hop the Asheville 3B couldn’t handle on a tough backhand.  Cordero is hitting a loud .353/.387/.506 in 41 games after the All-Star Break.

The Gnats had the tying run on base in each of the last four innings, but were a few hits short of tying the game.
