A reader puts a dollar value on John Sickels Farm System Rankings.
There are a number of methodological issues (like taking the average value for all C-level prospects rather than by parceling them out by age to produce a more accurate value) that prevent me from putting too much stock in the precise numbers. However, as an overall feel-type exercise, I think this has value. Mets position player prospects outpace their pitching side counterparts $44.3 million to $33.9. The Mets ranked 25th in baseball in expected value. Given Sickels’ initial rankings of Mets players, where he assigned one B+ and two Bs, this should not have been very surprising.
