Las Vegas starter Collin McHugh had struggled in his three starts heading into Tuesday night, surrendering no fewer than four earned runs and seven hits in each appearance. However, the Covington, Georgia native bounced back throwing seven shutout innings, scattering five hits, helping the 51s outlast the Round Rock Express 3-2 at Cashman Field. McHugh showed the same pinpoint control he’s had all season, striking out five without walking a batter. He threw 90 pitches, 59 for strikes. In 42.1 innings this season, McHugh has only walked seven while striking out 31 and in five of his seven starts he’s given his opponent one or fewer free pass.
The 51s offense was hardly impressive, but did enough with just three hits to win the game. 1b Josh Satin hit his team-leading 5th homerun of the season in the 1st inning. Hopefully, the homer will get Satin going after he was 2 for 13 (.154) at the plate during last weekend’s series in Sacramento. It was his first long ball and second extra base hit in the last 10 games.
