Tuesday in the SAL: Darrell Ceciliani is Rolling

@ Savannah Sand Gnats 11, Charleston RiverDogs 8

This was kinda messy, but the Gnats took advantage of eight walks from RiverDogs’ pitching to score a season-high seven runs in the fourth inning.

CF Darrell Ceciliani, who was 2-4 with a double, a triple and a walk, has caught fire in August: .320/.421/.443 with 16 walks and 20 strikeouts in 25 games.  In April, May, June and July he was a combined 15-for-22 stealing bases in 80 games.  In August: 10-for-11.   This is the player I had hoped to see all year when I ranked him as the #12 prospect on my pre-season list.

Taylor Whitenton was hurt a little by his defense, but he also was hurt by elevated fastballs: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K.  He has a very real chance with a good final start on Sunday to win the SAL ERA title.
