The 51s completed their long eight game road trip to Tennessee with only two wins after a 5-3 loss in Memphis Tuesday night. Aside from the three runs and three hits the Vegas offense posted in the 7th inning, they were completely silent with the bats the rest of the night (5H in the game).
Catcher Francisco Pena, who hit a three-run homer in the 51s win Monday, repeated the feat Tuesday with a three run blast in the 7th. It was his eighth long ball of the season. Pena had driven in 27 runs through his first 70 games (233 AB) between AA and AAA in 2013 before the rbi explosion the last two nights. He came into the game .251/.275/.439, while sharing time with Juan Centeno behind the plate.
Zach Lutz had two more hits in four at-bats, raising his average to .285 with an .835 OPS. He’s hit safely in three in a row and six of his last 10 games.
Lucas Duda got his first AAA start while continuing his rehab from an oblique strain. The Riverside, CA native played left field and was 0-4 with 2K.
Giancarlo Alvardo (4-2) got the start for Vegas and took the loss despite throwing well: 5IP, 5H, 1R, 1ER, 2BB, 1K. His era stands at an impressive 1.96.
Notes: The 51s have the day off tomorrow before starting a homestand in Vegas Thursday.
