Wally Backman will be be back in Triple-A

Terry Collins chose to keep his coaching staff in tact, and each guy accepted. However, had a spot opened up, Backman would have been the most likely replacement, I’ve heard from people close to the team. The front office really values the work Wally does getting players ready for the 25-man roster. He has a good relationship with Collins and takes pride in his position. However, people who know Backman repeatedly stress his desire to get back to the big leagues.

It’s just a hunch, but I don’t think Backman will ever be manager of the Mets as long as Sandy Alderson is GM. The two men get along, and I’ve heard Sandy was quite impressed…
