Wednesday Game Time Thread

AAA: Buffalo Bisons (60-76) vs. Syracuse Chiefs (WAS) (63-71) – 7:05
RHP Mark Cohoon (4-9, 6.37) vs. LHP Tom Milone (11-6, 3.33)

The Bisons play their second-to-last home game tonight.

Cohoon looks to salvage what has been a difficult season for the 23 year old.  In 2010, Cohoon posted a 12-5 record with a 2.57 ERA between A/AA.  This year his fortunes have reversed and he is a combined 5-12 with a 5.37 ERA between AA/AAA.

SS Jordany Valdespin used a lead-off home run on Monday night to extend his hit streak to eight games. Since August 22, the Triple-A rookie has hit .406 (13-32) with four doubles, a home run, four RBI and four runs scored.

Val Pascucci is currently tied for the IL lead with 91 RBI.

AA:  Binghamton Mets (63-72) @. Erie Sea Wolves (DET) (65-71) – 7:05
RHP Jeurys Familia (4-3, 3.59) vs. LHP Jay Voss (9-6, 3.57)

Familia makes his 16th start for Binghamton.  He is coming off a mediocre start his last time out, allowing four runs (3 earned) on seven hits over five innings.

OF Brahiam Maldonado has homered in three consecutive games to give him 27 on the year.  That total is the 4th most single-season home runs in B-Mets history.

It’s not easy to raise your batting average when it is already up near .400, but OF Juan Lagares did just that with another 2-4 effort last night.  His hit streak is in tact at 19 games going into tonight.

The B-Mets are a fun bunch to watch right now and probably do not want August to end.  Binghamton has a league-best 19 wins this month.  They trail 4th place Trenton by 1.5 games.

RHP Armando Rodriguez (4-4, 3.42) vs. RHP Ricky Bowen (1-2, 4.00)

21 year-old catcher Juan Centeno will be traveling to the Arizona Fall League after the FSL season ends.  The Puerto Rico native is hitting .327/.378/.380 in 50 games this season.  He makes solid contact but lacks power (only one home run and five doubles).  The former 32nd round pick  was drafted out of high school by the Mets in 2007.

A- SS: Brooklyn Cyclones (40-29) @ Lowell Spinners (BOS) (28-40) – 7:05
RHP Jeffrey Walters (3-6, 3.45) vs. RHP Madison Younginer (1-5, 5.11)

Jeffrey Walters makes his 14th start today for the Cyclones.  Walters has been solid all year long, despite his poor W-L record.  Opponents are hitting .258 against him and he is 3rd among BRK starters with a 3.45 ERA.

OF Travis Taijeron leads the NYPL with a .571 slugging percentage and a .974 OPS.

Five games left on the schedule and Brooklyn remains tied with Williamsport for the wild card lead.

Rookie:  Kingsport Mets (39-29)

C Cam Maron was named to the 2011 All-Appalachian League team.  The 20 year-old native of New York hit .318/.434/.847 in 58 games this season.  His 38 BB/34 SO rate is very impressive.

1st round pick Brandon Nimmo went 1-9 in his 3 games with Kingsport, walking 3 times and striking out 5 times.

Fellow 2011 draftee SS Phillip Evans went 4-11 in his 3 games walking once, striking out twice and drove in 3 runs.

Kingsport finished the year 39-29, good enough for 3rd place.
