Zach Dotson Suspended

From Major League Baseball’s press release, conveniently sent out at 6:06 pm ET.

New York Mets Minor League pitcher Zachary Dotson, who is currently on the roster of the club’s Gulf Coast League team, has been suspended for 50 games after testing positive for Methylhexaneamine. The suspension is effective immediately.

The Mets went overslot to sign Dotston, their 13th round pick in the 2009 draft for $500,000 dollars.  He’s a physical (6’3″ 200 lbs) lefty out of Effingham County (just to the west of Savannah) with a live arm.

The chemical name for the compound is 1,3-dimethylamylamine, and according to his thread, it has some stimulatory properties.
The wikipedia entry spells the drug name methylhexanamine (one fewer internal e).  Wikipedia tells us that Eli Lilly originally produced the drug as a nasal decongestant, but it appears in some weight loss products for its stimulatory effects and more recently in “party pills” in New Zealand.
