Jacob Anthony deGrom is a United State professional baseball pitcher, who starts for the New York Mets in the major league baseball, he attended Stetson University where he played college baseball for the college team, the Stetson hatters, his journey to becoming a world-acclaimed pitcher started with his junior year at the Stetson college.
How Did The Mets Get DeGrom?
The Mets grabbed the pitcher when he was in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB draft, The draft was held from the 7th to the 9th of June in 2010, at the MLB Network studios in New Jersey, his debut came 4 years later on May 15th, 2014, in the same year he was the player rookie of the year for the national league, a title he won the next year also, the next years – 2015, 2018,2019 and 2021 – Jacob deGrom was selected as the MLB all-star.

deGrom is currently regarded as the best pitcher in the MLB at the moment and the reason for this is his very good statistics which he keeps winning while with the New York Mets. In 2018 he was named the NL ERA leader, the ERA leader is a statistic used to measure how pitchers performed within a year in the mean of earned runs, he also won the CY Young Award, which is an annual award given to the best pitchers in the major league baseball with one each for the American league and National league, a title he won twice in a row, in 2019 he was named as the best professional athlete in New York City by the New York Post.

deGrom made his debut for the Mets in May 2014 after he was promoted to the major leagues in the same month and since then the pitcher has not seen his stopping point.

The pitcher replaced Germen Gonzalez after he was placed on the disabled list in 2014, he initially meant to play as a relief player but Dillion Gee was injured which saw the Mets putting on the player in the starting rotation, this ensured that he made his debut on May 15th against a fairly big game with the New York Yankees in the Mets Home field, during the game he pitched 7 innings, allowing only one home run and striking out the rest of the 6, although the Yankees won the Mets 1-0, deGrom was incredible, giving the first MLB hit both in his career, the game, and team since the 2014 season-ending a 0-64 hitless streak. Months down the line deGrom became a regular, in September he faced the marlins and struck out all first eight batters which tied the MLB record.

In 2015 he was selected along with Clayton Kershaw of the LA Dodgers for the national league co-players of the week in June, his season started with an 8-6 loss record but with a 2.30 earned run average (ERA), despite starting the season with a loss he was named the national league roster in the 2015 MLB all-star game, his record at the end of the 2015 season stood at 0.999 walks plus hits per inning pitched ratio, he also became the first person to strike out three batters after ten pitches, becoming the first player to do that after pitch counts became recorded.

In 2016 he initially refused to sign for the Mets, regardless of the $607,000 salary, 2017 however he became eligible for a salary arbitration but opted for an agreement with the Mets for an average salary of about $4.05 million for the 2017 season, after which he went on to hit his first home run in the Citi Field, he also broke other several records. And in 2018 he increased his salary for the season to about $7.4 million, he was then placed on a 10-day disabled list, and he finished the 2018 season by being voted fifth as the MVP of the national league.

In 2019, deGrom had become so valuable that he started receiving an annual salary of $17 million for the 2019 season, and by the end of the season he earned the worth as the new York post named him as their athlete of the decade, in 2020, he became the 10 highest paid baseball player in the National League and by 2021, his game was majorly drawn back by injuries following inflammation in the elbow and other injuries, in 2022 his injuries followed him as he had a stress reaction which was a precursor from a stress fracture.
DeGrom is married to Stacey, they have been married since his debut in 2014, and he lives in Florida.
