AC/DC fans and concert-goers are buzzing about the upcoming Power Trip performance, where the legendary band will perform without their longtime drummer Phil Rudd. Whether you’re a die-hard collector, a casual listener, or simply curious about how the band will adapt, this list covers the key details, options, and questions surrounding this unique event. Here’s what you need to know about the setlist changes, tribute performances, and how to choose the best experience for yourself.
1. The Significance of Phil Rudd’s Absence
Phil Rudd, who has been with AC/DC since 1975, is known for his powerful, straightforward drumming style that helped define the band’s sound. His absence at Power Trip is due to legal issues and health concerns, making this performance a rare opportunity to experience AC/DC’s core sound with a different rhythm section. This change has fans wondering how the band will adapt, and it’s a historic moment in AC/DC’s touring history.
2. The Replacement Drummer: Chris Slade Returns
For this performance, AC/DC has brought back drummer Chris Slade, who played with the band from 1989 to 1994 and again during the 2015-2016 tour. Slade’s powerful drumming style closely resembles Rudd’s and is familiar to fans from albums like “The Razors Edge”. His return ensures the band maintains its iconic sound, making the performance both authentic and exciting for longtime followers.
3. The Setlist and Song Arrangements
With Rudd absent, the band has adjusted their setlist to focus on classics that highlight their signature sound. Expect to hear hits like “Back in Black,” “Highway to Hell,” and “You Shook Me All Night Long,” performed with a slightly different groove. Some deeper cuts and live staples might be replaced or shortened, but the core energy remains intact, promising a high-octane experience for fans.
4. Special Guest or Tribute Performances
There are rumors that the band might include a tribute segment or guest musicians to honor Rudd’s contribution. Some reports suggest a local drummer or a guest artist might sit in for certain songs, adding a unique twist to the show. This could make the Power Trip setlist a one-time-only event, making it a must-see for collectors and enthusiasts.
5. How the Band’s Sound Will Change
While AC/DC’s core sound is heavily reliant on the rhythm section, the band has historically adapted well to lineup changes. With Slade at the drums, expect a performance that retains the tight, driving beat that defines their style. However, subtle differences in feel and timing might be noticeable, giving the show a slightly fresh edge while staying true to their roots.
6. Audience Expectations and Reactions
Early reactions from fans attending the rehearsals and promotional events suggest excitement and curiosity. Some purists worry about the absence of Rudd, but many are optimistic about Slade’s performance. Audience feedback will be crucial in shaping the overall reception of this historic event, making it a fascinating case study in band dynamics and fan loyalty.
