Aloe Vera Tea: 20 Benefits, Side Effects & How to Make It

Discover the refreshing and health-boosting benefits of aloe vera tea. This natural infusion combines the soothing properties of aloe vera with the comforting warmth of tea, making it a popular choice for wellness enthusiasts. Learning how to prepare it properly ensures you enjoy its full potential safely.

Ingredients

  • Fresh aloe vera gel: 2 tablespoons (from about 1 large leaf)
  • Green tea or herbal tea bag: 1 (about 8 oz)
  • Honey or natural sweetener: 1 teaspoon (optional)
  • Lemon juice: 1 teaspoon (optional)
  • Water: 1 cup (8 oz)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Aloe Vera Gel: Carefully cut open a fresh aloe vera leaf close to the base. Use a spoon to scoop out 2 tablespoons of clear, gel-like substance, avoiding the yellowish latex layer underneath, which can be irritating.
  2. Clean the Gel: Rinse the aloe vera gel thoroughly under cold water to remove any residual latex or bitterness. Pat dry with a paper towel.
  3. Boil Water: In a small pot, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat.
  4. Infuse the Tea: Place the tea bag into a cup and pour the hot water over it. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes, depending on the desired strength.
  5. Add Aloe Vera: Remove the tea bag and stir in the prepared aloe vera gel while the tea is warm. Mix well to ensure the gel dissolves evenly.
  6. Sweeten and Flavor: Optional—add honey or your preferred sweetener and a dash of lemon juice for flavor and added health benefits. Stir thoroughly.
  7. Serve: Pour the aloe vera tea into a mug and enjoy warm. You can also let it cool and serve over ice for a refreshing cold beverage.

Tips

  • Use fresh aloe vera for maximum benefits; avoid using store-bought gels that contain preservatives or additives.
  • If fresh aloe vera isn’t available, high-quality organic aloe vera juice can be used as a substitute, but check labels for added ingredients.
  • Be cautious with the amount of aloe vera gel—excessive consumption can cause digestive discomfort or laxative effects.
  • Store leftover tea in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Reheat gently before drinking or serve cold.

Serving Suggestions

Enjoy aloe vera tea as a morning detox, an afternoon refreshment, or a calming evening beverage. Its natural properties can support digestion, boost immunity, and promote skin health. For added flavor, consider infusing with herbs like mint or adding a slice of cucumber.
