If you’re new to home recording or looking for an all-in-one solution that balances quality and affordability, the Audient EVO Start Recording Bundle offers a compelling package. This review covers the key components of the bundle, including the audio interface, microphone, headphones, and accessories, to help you determine if it’s right for your recording needs. Whether you’re a beginner podcaster, musician, or content creator, this guide will give you a clear understanding of what makes this bundle stand out and how to maximize its potential.
Audient EVO 4 Audio Interface
The centerpiece of the bundle is the Audient EVO 4, a compact yet feature-rich audio interface. It offers two Class-A microphone preamps with smart gain technology, which automatically adjusts gain levels to prevent clipping and noise. The EVO 4 supports up to 24-bit/96kHz recording quality, ensuring clear and professional sound. Its intuitive interface and simple controls make it ideal for beginners, while its robust build quality promises durability for long-term use.
Audient EVO Microphone
The bundle typically includes the Audient EVO SC6 microphone, a versatile condenser mic suitable for vocals, acoustic instruments, and podcasts. It features a cardioid polar pattern that minimizes background noise and captures focused sound. The microphone’s build quality is solid, with a sturdy metal body that withstands regular use. Paired with the EVO 4, it provides a significant upgrade over built-in computer microphones and is capable of capturing studio-quality recordings.
Headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-M20x
The included headphones are the Audio-Technica ATH-M20x, a reliable entry-level model that offers balanced sound for mixing and monitoring. They have a closed-back design that isolates external noise, allowing you to focus on your recordings. While not audiophile-grade, these headphones are comfortable for extended sessions and provide accurate enough sound to make mixing decisions. Their durability and affordability make them a practical choice for beginners.
Accessories and Cables
The bundle also provides essential accessories like XLR cables, a desktop stand for the microphone, and a USB cable for connecting the interface to your computer. The XLR cable ensures a secure connection for the microphone, while the stand allows you to position the mic at the optimal height. These accessories make setup straightforward and help you start recording immediately without needing to purchase additional gear.
Studio Headphone Amplifier
Some versions of the bundle include a headphone amplifier like the Behringer HA400, which allows multiple users to monitor simultaneously. This is especially useful if you plan to collaborate with others or want to set up a small recording studio at home. It provides clean, adjustable volume controls and helps prevent audio bleed, ensuring clear monitoring during recording and mixing sessions.
Software and Bundled Extras
The Audient EVO Start Recording Bundle often comes with a selection of recording software such as Ableton Live Lite, PreSonus Studio One Prime, or other DAWs. These programs give you a platform to record, edit, and produce your audio projects right out of the box. Some bundles also include educational resources or sample packs, helping beginners learn the ropes and improve their skills quickly.
Build Quality and Portability
One of the key advantages of this bundle is its portability. The EVO 4’s compact size and lightweight design make it easy to carry for on-the-go recording sessions. The microphone and headphones also have a sturdy build, designed to withstand regular use. This makes the entire setup suitable for both home studios and mobile recording setups.
How to Choose
When selecting a recording bundle like this, consider your specific needs: Do you require multiple microphone inputs? Will you be recording vocals, instruments, or both? The quality of the microphone and interface should match your intended use—if you’re recording acoustic guitar or vocals, a condenser mic like the EVO SC6 is ideal. Also, assess your budget for accessories and software, and ensure the bundle offers good value for your investment. Compatibility with your computer and ease of use are essential factors, especially for beginners.
