Bael Tea: 20 Benefits, Side Effects, Dosage & How to Make It

Bael tea, made from the dried fruit of the Bael tree, is a traditional herbal beverage celebrated for its numerous health benefits. Its soothing flavor and natural medicinal properties make it a popular choice for promoting digestion, boosting immunity, and more. Here’s how to prepare it and understand its potential effects.

Ingredients

  • dried Bael fruit pieces – 2 tablespoons
  • water – 2 cups (500 ml)
  • honey or jaggery (optional) – 1 teaspoon
  • fresh ginger (optional) – 1 small piece (about 1 inch)
  • lemon juice (optional) – 1 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Place the dried Bael fruit pieces in a saucepan and add 2 cups of water.
  2. If using fresh ginger, peel and add it to the water for added flavor and digestive benefits.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes. This allows the active compounds to infuse into the water.
  4. After simmering, turn off the heat and strain the tea into a cup using a fine sieve to remove the fruit pieces and ginger slices.
  5. If desired, stir in honey or jaggery to enhance sweetness. Add lemon juice for a tangy flavor and extra vitamin C.
  6. Serve the hot Bael tea immediately for best flavor and benefits.

Tips

  • Substitution: If dried Bael fruit isn’t available, you can use Bael powder—use about 1 teaspoon per cup of water, but adjust according to taste.
  • Storage: Leftover Bael tea can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Reheat gently before drinking.
  • Common Mistake: Over-boiling can degrade some of the beneficial compounds. Keep simmering time to 15-20 minutes for optimal infusion.
  • Enhancements: Add a cinnamon stick during boiling for a warming flavor and additional health benefits.

Serving Suggestions

Enjoy Bael tea as a warm, comforting beverage in the morning or evening. It’s particularly effective when consumed after meals to aid digestion or when feeling under the weather due to its immune-boosting properties. Pair it with light snacks or herbal biscuits for a relaxing tea time.
