BTS have seven members, and the line-up has never changed since their debut: RM (leader, rapper), Jin (vocalist), Suga (rapper), J-Hope (rapper), Jimin (vocalist), V (vocalist) and Jung Kook (vocalist). The South Korean boy band, also known as the Bangtan Boys, was formed in 2010 and debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool.
The members co-write or co-produce much of their material. In June 2022 the group announced a pause in group activities so the members could complete mandatory South Korean military service, which all of them had completed by June 2025. Here is each member and his role in the group.
RM – Leader, Rapper
RM is the leader of BTS and one of its three rappers. Like the other members, he co-writes and co-produces much of the group’s music.
Jin – Vocalist
Jin is one of the group’s four vocalists. He has been part of BTS since its 2013 debut.
Suga – Rapper
Suga is one of the three rappers in BTS, alongside RM and J-Hope, and contributes to writing and producing the group’s songs.
J-Hope – Rapper
J-Hope is the third member of the group’s rap line. BTS began as a hip hop group before expanding into a wide range of genres.
Jimin – Vocalist
Jimin is a vocalist and has been a member since the debut with 2 Cool 4 Skool.
V – Vocalist
V is one of the group’s vocalists and part of the original seven-member line-up.
Jung Kook – Vocalist
Jung Kook is a vocalist and the remaining member of the seven. The group’s line-up has stayed the same throughout its career.
