Where the Name Comes From
The band’s name comes from the New International Version translation of 2 Corinthians 4:7. The verse is paraphrased in the song “Four Seven,” a hidden track on the CD release of their self-titled album.
The Line-Up Behind “Flood”
The band signed with Essential Records and released its self-titled debut in 1995. Adrian Belew of King Crimson produced two of its songs, “Liquid” and “Flood.” “Flood” peaked at No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 12 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart, the band’s only secular radio hit. The four members went on to win Grammy awards for three albums in a row, the third for The Eleventh Hour in 2002, which they self-produced.
In March 2007 the band announced it had left Essential Records to release music independently, through its own label Gray Matters.
