The Deftones have officially announced the postponement of their North American tour originally scheduled for later in 2020, pushing it back to 2021. This decision impacts countless fans eager to see the band live and is part of a broader trend of concert postponements due to ongoing health concerns. If you’re a fan planning to attend their rescheduled shows or simply want to stay updated on their tour plans, this list provides essential details, options, and advice to help you navigate the new schedule and make informed decisions.
1. Why Did Deftones Postpone Their Tour?
The band cited the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and related health and safety concerns as the primary reasons for postponing their North American tour. With restrictions on large gatherings and international travel still in effect, the band decided it’s safest for fans, crew, and themselves to delay the tour until conditions improve in 2021. This move aligns with many other artists postponing or canceling their tours to prioritize public health.
2. New Dates and Locations
The rescheduled tour dates have not been fully announced yet, but Deftones’ management has indicated that most shows will be pushed into early to mid-2021. Fans should regularly check the band’s official website and social media channels for updates, as the band aims to confirm new dates as soon as possible. The venues remain the same, but the specific dates will be adjusted to accommodate health guidelines and tour logistics.
3. How to Get Ticket Refunds or Transfers
If you purchased tickets for the original 2020 dates, most ticket vendors like Ticketmaster and Live Nation are offering refund options or the ability to transfer tickets to the new dates once announced. Check your ticket provider’s policies promptly to avoid missing deadlines. Many fans opt to keep their tickets, as they will automatically be valid for the rescheduled shows once dates are confirmed.
4. What About VIP Packages and Presales?
VIP packages purchased for the original tour are generally being held over for the new dates, but it’s advisable to verify with the ticket vendor or official band communications. Presale codes may still be valid for the new dates, allowing early access to tickets once they go on sale again. Keep an eye on your email and official channels for updates about these special offerings.
5. How Will This Affect the Band and Crew?
The postponement impacts not just fans but also the band members and crew who rely on tour income. The band has expressed their disappointment but emphasizes safety and health as their top priorities. They are using the extra time to work on new music and prepare for a safe return to touring, which many fans see as a positive sign for future releases and performances.
6. What Are the Alternatives for Fans During the Delay?
While waiting for the rescheduled tour, fans can explore Deftones’ latest albums, such as “Ohms” (2020), or participate in virtual events the band might host. Some artists have been hosting live streams, Q&A sessions, or releasing exclusive content to stay connected with fans during the hiatus. Following the band on social media is the best way to stay informed about these opportunities.
7. How Does This Impact Future Tours?
The postponement of this tour is part of a broader industry trend, with many artists re-evaluating their touring schedules for 2021 and beyond. Deftones have indicated that they are committed to touring again once it’s safe, but the landscape remains uncertain. Fans should remain flexible and keep an eye out for official announcements about upcoming tours and festival appearances.

This creative period may also influence the direction of their future live performances.
How to Choose
When deciding whether to hold onto your tickets or seek refunds, consider your personal comfort level with attending events during the pandemic, the band’s announced safety protocols, and your flexibility with new dates. If you’re eager to see Deftones live and trust their safety measures, keeping your tickets is a good option.
