The Deftones have officially announced the postponement of their highly anticipated summer European tour to 2022. This guide is for fans, concert-goers, and music enthusiasts eager to understand the details behind this change, what it means for their plans, and how to stay updated. We’ll cover the key reasons for the postponement, what the band has shared, and tips for navigating the rescheduled dates, so you can stay informed and prepared.
1. Official Announcement and Reasons for Postponement
The Deftones announced on their social media channels on October 15, 2023, that their summer European tour would be postponed to 2022. The band cited ongoing logistical challenges related to the global pandemic, including travel restrictions and health safety concerns, as primary reasons for the delay. They expressed disappointment but emphasized their commitment to performing safely for fans and crew, making the postponement necessary to ensure a successful tour in the future.
2. New Dates and Locations
The rescheduled tour is now planned for spring and summer 2022, with specific dates yet to be officially confirmed. The band has promised to release the updated schedule in the coming weeks, but initial hints suggest major cities like London, Paris, Berlin, and Madrid will still host shows. Fans should keep an eye on the band’s official website and social media for the latest updates to avoid missing out on their favorite venues.
3. Ticket Refund and Transfer Policies
Ticket buyers who purchased tickets for the original summer dates will be offered options for refunds or transfers to the new dates. Ticketmaster and other authorized vendors have already begun processing refunds, and many have announced that tickets can be transferred free of charge once the new schedule is announced. Fans are advised to retain their original tickets and monitor official channels for detailed instructions on how to proceed.
4. Impact on Festival Appearances and Other Events
Several festivals that were scheduled to feature Deftones, such as Download Festival UK and Roskilde Festival, have also postponed or canceled their 2021 editions. The band’s absence from these events may impact fans’ plans, but organizers are working to reschedule or host alternative dates in 2022. Fans should verify the status of these festivals individually and stay updated through official festival websites.
5. What the Band Has Said About the Postponement
Chino Moreno, lead vocalist of Deftones, posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, expressing gratitude for fans’ understanding and patience. He mentioned that the band is eager to return to the stage and promised that the new tour will be worth the wait, highlighting their dedication to delivering their best performances. The band also thanked their crew and partners for their ongoing support during these challenging times.
6. How This Affects Your Travel Plans
If you had planned to attend the summer shows, it’s important to revisit your travel arrangements. Many fans booked flights, hotels, and transportation well in advance, so checking the new tour dates as soon as they’re announced is crucial. Some airlines and accommodation providers may offer flexible booking options, but it’s wise to confirm cancellation or transfer policies early to avoid unnecessary costs or inconvenience.
7. What to Expect When the Tour Resumes
The Deftones are known for their energetic live performances and setlists that blend hits from albums like “White Pony,” “Koi No Yokan,” and “Ohms.” Fans can anticipate a revamped stage design, new visual effects, and possibly some surprises or new material as the band prepares for 2022. Given the delay, the band has also hinted at the possibility of debuting new songs during the rescheduled tour, making it a must-see event for dedicated followers.

Additionally, fans can join online communities and forums to exchange information and tips about travel, accommodations, and concert experiences.
9. The Band’s Future Plans Beyond the 2022 Tour
While the postponed European tour is a setback, Deftones are expected to focus on recording new material and possibly releasing a new album in 2023. The band’s members, including Stephen Carpenter and Abe Cunningham, have hinted at working on fresh tracks during the downtime. This means fans may have new music to look forward to alongside the rescheduled tour dates, promising an exciting future for the band.
10. How This Postponement Reflects the Current Music Industry Climate
The Deftones’ decision to postpone exemplifies the cautious approach many artists are taking amid ongoing pandemic uncertainties. It highlights the importance of prioritizing health and safety while maintaining a commitment to their fans. This situation also underscores the need for flexible ticketing policies and transparent communication between artists, organizers, and audiences during unpredictable times.

When selecting which rescheduled dates to attend, consider factors such as proximity, venue capacity, and your personal schedule. Prioritize dates in your preferred cities and those that align with your travel plans. Also, think about whether you want to attend a festival appearance or a standalone concert, as this can influence your overall experience.
