DIY Body Wash Recipe That Keeps Your Skin Moisturized in Winter

DIY Body Wash Recipe That Keeps Your Skin Moisturized in Winter

During the cold winter months, maintaining moisturized, healthy skin can be challenging. This DIY body wash combines gentle cleansing agents with nourishing oils and soothing ingredients to clean your skin without stripping away moisture, leaving it soft and hydrated all season long.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup liquid castile soap (unscented or your preferred scent)
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)
  • 2 tablespoons raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin
  • 10 drops vitamin E oil (optional, for added skin nourishment)
  • 10 drops essential oil (lavender, chamomile, or eucalyptus for fragrance)
  • 1/4 teaspoon xanthan gum (optional, for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by sterilizing a clean, empty bottle or dispenser suitable for liquid soap. This ensures the body wash remains fresh and free of bacteria.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the liquid castile soap and melted coconut oil. Stir gently to blend the oils evenly with the soap.
  3. Add the raw honey to the mixture. Honey is a natural humectant, helping to attract moisture to the skin. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
  4. Pour in the vegetable glycerin, which adds extra hydration and improves the lather of the body wash. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
  5. If using vitamin E oil, add it now. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that supports skin healing and prolongs the shelf life of your body wash.
  6. Drop in your chosen essential oil(s). For relaxation, lavender or chamomile work beautifully; for a refreshing scent, eucalyptus is great. Adjust the number of drops to your scent preference.
  7. If you prefer a slightly thicker consistency, sprinkle the xanthan gum slowly into the mixture while whisking continuously to prevent clumping. This step is optional but can help with the texture.
  8. Transfer the mixture into your prepared bottle or dispenser using a funnel. Secure the lid tightly.
  9. Gently shake the bottle to ensure all ingredients are well mixed. Let it sit for at least 2 hours before use to allow the ingredients to meld.

Tips

  • Substitutions: You can substitute coconut oil with almond or jojoba oil for different skin benefits or sensitivities.
  • Storage: Keep your body wash in a cool, dark place. Since it contains natural ingredients, it’s best to use within 4-6 weeks for maximum freshness.
  • Consistency adjustments: If your body wash feels too watery, add a tiny pinch of xanthan gum and whisk thoroughly. For a thinner wash, reduce the glycerin slightly.
  • Common mistakes: Avoid overusing essential oils, as they can irritate sensitive skin. Always do a patch test before regular use.

Serving Suggestions

Use a small amount of this gentle, moisturizing body wash on a loofah or washcloth to cleanse your skin during your shower or bath. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry for soft, hydrated skin. The nourishing ingredients will help combat winter dryness and leave your skin feeling comfortable and moisturized.
