Guava Juice: 20 Benefits, Side Effects, Nutrition & How to Make It

Guava juice is a delicious and nutritious beverage packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and health benefits. Making it at home is simple and allows you to enjoy a fresh, natural drink that boosts your immune system and supports overall wellness.

Ingredients

  • Fresh ripe guavas – 4 large
  • Water – 2 cups (about 500 ml)
  • Honey or sugar – 2-3 tablespoons (optional, for sweetness)
  • Lemon juice – 1 tablespoon (optional, for flavor and preservation)
  • Ice cubes – as needed (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the guavas thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or residues. Pat them dry with a clean towel.
  2. Cut the guavas into small pieces, removing the stems. No need to peel unless the skin is damaged or overly tough, as the skin contains beneficial nutrients.
  3. Place the cut guavas into a blender. Add 1 cup of water to help blend smoothly.
  4. Blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth and no large pieces remain. If needed, add more water to achieve your desired consistency.
  5. Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a bowl or pitcher to remove seeds and pulp, pressing gently to extract maximum juice.
  6. Add the remaining 1 cup of water to the strained juice. Stir well to combine.
  7. Sweeten the juice with honey or sugar, adjusting to taste. Stir until fully dissolved. For a tangy flavor, add lemon juice and mix thoroughly.
  8. Serve immediately over ice cubes for a refreshing drink, or chill in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before serving.

Tips

  • Substitutions: Use agave syrup or stevia instead of honey or sugar for a vegan or low-calorie option.
  • Storage: Store leftover guava juice in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Shake or stir before drinking, as natural separation may occur.
  • Common mistakes: Over-blending can make the juice bitter; blend just enough to break down the fruit. Also, avoid skipping straining if you prefer a smooth juice free of seeds and pulp.
  • Extra flavor: Add a few mint leaves or a slice of ginger during blending for an extra refreshing twist.

Serving Suggestions

Enjoy guava juice on its own as a revitalizing beverage or serve it alongside breakfast or snacks. It pairs well with light salads, tropical dishes, or as a base for smoothies. For an added touch, garnish with a slice of lime or a sprig of mint.
