How to Hide Users on Windows 11 Sign for Privacy and Security

Managing user accounts on Windows 11 is essential for maintaining privacy, security, and a clutter-free login screen. Sometimes, you may want to hide certain user accounts from appearing on the login screen, especially for shared devices or to prevent unauthorized access. This guide will walk you through the steps to hide specific users from the Windows 11 sign-in screen, ensuring only the intended accounts are visible to users. Before starting, ensure you have administrator access to your Windows 11 device, as some steps require elevated permissions.

What You’ll Need

  • A Windows 11 PC with administrator privileges
  • Basic familiarity with Windows Settings and Command Prompt or PowerShell
  • Optional: Backup important data before making system changes

Step-by-Step

  1. Open the Run dialog box by pressing Windows key + R on your keyboard.
  2. Type lusrmgr.msc and press Enter. This opens the Local Users and Groups management console. Note: This method is available only on Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, or Education editions. If you’re using Windows 11 Home, skip to the next method involving Registry edits.
  3. In the left pane, click on “Users” to see a list of all user accounts.
  4. Locate the user account you want to hide from the login screen.
  5. Right-click on the user account and select “Properties.”
  6. In the Properties window, check the box labeled “Account is disabled.” Click OK. This disables the account and prevents it from appearing on the login screen.
  7. If you prefer to keep the account active but hide it from the login screen, proceed to the next method using Registry Editor.
  8. Press Windows key + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open Registry Editor.
  9. Navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
