Whether you’re a longtime follower or new to the scene, understanding these changes is essential to appreciating IMMORTAL DISFIGUREMENT’s current trajectory.
1. The Split with CJ MCREERY
In late 2023, IMMORTAL DISFIGUREMENT announced that CJ MCREERY, the band’s lead guitarist and a core member since their inception, had parted ways. MCREERY’s departure came amid creative differences and personal commitments, which he cited as reasons for stepping back from the project. This split has left fans wondering how the band’s sound and future direction will evolve without his signature riffs and songwriting influence.
2. Impact on the Band’s Sound
CJ MCREERY was instrumental in shaping IMMORTAL DISFIGUREMENT’s signature blend of brutal death metal and grindcore. His intricate riffing and songwriting contributed to the band’s distinctive chaos and technical precision. With his exit, many expect a shift toward a rawer, perhaps more chaotic sound, or a potential shift in songwriting dynamics as the remaining members adapt to the new lineup.
3. Delay of the New Album
The band had initially announced a release window for their upcoming album, but following MCREERY’s departure, they delayed the release. The delay allows the band time to rework compositions, incorporate new members, and ensure the album meets their artistic standards. Fans should expect a longer wait but potentially a more cohesive and refined product upon release.
4. Who’s Replacing CJ MCREERY?
As of now, IMMORTAL DISFIGUREMENT has not officially announced a permanent replacement for MCREERY. However, rumors suggest they are auditioning several guitarists from the underground scene, including members of other death metal acts like OBITUARY and DYING FETUS. Lineup changes and delays are common in underground metal, often reflecting the intense creative pressure and personal commitments of band members. IMMORTAL DISFIGUREMENT’s situation highlights the volatility and resilience of the scene, demonstrating how bands adapt and evolve even amidst setbacks. 10. How to Choose Which IMMORTAL DISFIGUREMENT Material to Follow
When selecting which releases or live recordings to follow, consider the lineup involved and the production quality.
